A message from the office of development and alumni affairs

We are thrilled to share the news that two College of Public Health and Health Professions alumni, Dave Long, bachelor’s in health science ’00, and Sheryl Flynn, Ph.D., master’s in physical therapy ’97, made UF’s list of Gator100 for 2016.

The Gator100, presented by UF, the Warrington College of Business and its Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center, celebrates the world’s 100 fastest-growing businesses owned or led by UF alumni. Companies are ranked by compounded annual growth rate over the past three years.

Like many of our alumni, Long and Flynn have combined their health knowledge with management skills and entrepreneurial spirit to bring innovative health services and products to the public.

Long’s company, Orangetheory Fitness, topped the Gator100 list. As a founder and CEO, Long, who also holds a master’s degree in business administration from UF, has overseen the expansion of the company from one location in Ft. Lauderdale to a franchise of more than 500 fitness studios across the U.S. and in nine other countries. Orangetheory workouts use high intensity interval training to push participants to a target “orange zone” on a heart rate monitor.

This is Flynn’s second year appearing on the Gator100. She is the founder and CEO of Blue Marble Game Co. in Los Angeles. Her company creates evidence-based rehabilitation video games for patients with problems with attention, memory, executive function or visual perception. The games were first developed to help veterans with post-concussion syndrome, but the applications now extend to many other diagnoses, including ADHD, mild autism, cognitive decline in aging, stroke, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

We are so proud of Dave and Sheryl and we look forward to watching their continued success!
